The Children’s Rights Day (Kinderrechtendag) in Royal Theatre Carré.

On November 15th, 2024 UIB participated in the Children’s Rights Day organized by the film festival “Movies that Matter”, where together with students, we explored the importance of children’s rights during an energetic event featuring an inspiring mix of short films, a quiz, and surprising performances. The event gathered approximately 650 secondary education students.

As part of the program, the short film “Girl Away From Home” was presented.

This documentary tells the story of 13-year-old gymnast Nastia from Kyiv, who was training for the national championships in Ukraine until the war began, forcing her to flee to her grandmother in Germany.

Alongside the film, highlighting the importance of dreaming and expressing oneself through dance, UlB dancers performed two choreographic pieces by choreographer Dmytro Borodai: “Soul Vibrations” by composer Ram Dass and a lyrical duet inspired by Ukrainian folk music—”Cheremshyna.”.

After the performance, the children gave enthusiastic applause and had the opportunity to ask questions directly from performers, creating a very warm and friendly atmosphere.

This performance reinforced UIB’s mission to use culture as an accessible tool to educate, support, and inspire new generations.

As a foundation, we are happy to contribute to the development of children and the younger audience by inspiring and sharing creative experiences, as this is extremely important.

This collaboration between UIB and the Movies That Matter Film Festival was a testament to the transformative power of stories told through cinema and the arts—shining a spotlight on the strength of young Ukrainians and the importance of standing together for peace and support.
