Ukrainian International Ballet Participates in the Film Hilfe für ein versehrtes Land

Reflections from the Fall Tour 2025

Ukrainian International Ballet took part in the filming of the German documentary Hilfe für ein versehrtes Land (“Help for a Wounded Country”), directed by Michael Günther together with Heike Schüller. The film was released and made publicly available on 19 November 2025.

The film tells the personal story of Ukrainian military veteran Yevgen Syvolap and explores themes of war, recovery, and resilience. Ukrainian International Ballet became involved in the project through an artistic collaboration with Yevgen in the Hague, where we worked together on a performance for the educational event in Berlin, Germany. Both the rehearsal process and the stage presentation were filmed and became part of the documentary.

For Ukrainian International Ballet, it was a great honour to collaborate with Yevgen Syvolap, as well as with filmmakers Michael Günther and Heike Schüller. This project reflects values that are central to our work: dignity, empathy, and the belief that art can create space for visibility, dialogue, and human connection, especially in times of conflict.

The collaboration also aligns with our ongoing commitment to inclusive artistic practice. Ukrainian International Ballet will continue to develop and expand inclusive projects, working with performers of diverse experiences and abilities, and exploring how dance can give voice to stories that need to be seen and heard.

We are grateful to have contributed to Hilfe für ein versehrtes Land and proud that our artistic work could become part of a film that sheds light on the human impact of the war in Ukraine.
