An Open Rehearsal With Our Neighbours

Building Community Through Dance

Recently, Ukrainian International Ballet opened the doors of our studio for a special Open Rehearsal for our neighbours, creating a moment of connection and shared presence within our local community.

The response was overwhelming. The studio filled up quickly, and we found ourselves adding chairs until there was hardly any space left. Neighbours, friends, and visitors gathered to watch fragments from our recent works, stepping for a moment into our creative process and the world we are building on stage.

After the rehearsal, we stayed together. Thanks to the support of our tasty sponsor Zuivelhoeve Kijkduin, we shared cheese and small bites, turning the evening into an informal, welcoming gathering. Conversations unfolded naturally. We spoke with our neighbours, exchanged impressions, listened, laughed, and shared reflections in an atmosphere of openness and mutual understanding.

What stayed with us most was the warmth of the evening. This was not only about showing dance, but about being together, getting to know one another, and creating a sense of belonging beyond the studio walls.

This initiative was made possible with the support of the Municipality of The Hague, our partner, who kindly provides us with rehearsal space and actively supports initiatives that strengthen local community life. We are grateful for this trust and collaboration.

Encouraged by the energy of this evening, we plan to continue organising similar open moments in the future. We believe that building community starts simply. By opening doors. By sharing space. And by moving together.
