About

Born in Tokmak, in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, Dmytro Borodai began his choreographic career at just fifteen. At twenty‑two, he discovered contemporary dance, which broadened his creative vision; a year later, he completed his first works: Soul Vibrations and The Heart and the Matter (to music by Ram Dass). These pieces premiered at the United Ukrainian Ballet’s gala Ukraine 4 Ever, earning him invitations to perform at numerous festivals and events.

Meanwhile, Dmytro pursued formal training, graduating with honors from the Serge Lifar Kyiv Municipal Academy of Dance (Bachelor of Arts) and later earning his Master of Arts from the National Academy of Culture and Arts Management.

From September 2019 to June 2022, he danced as a soloist with the National Opera of Ukraine, performing key roles such as the Prince in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, as well as featured parts in La Sylphide, the Chinese Dance and Harlequin in The Nutcracker, and Lileya.

In 2024, Dmytro expanded his international experience by joining the NDT Summer Intensive in the Netherlands and performing as a guest artist at the Opéra National de Bordeaux. That same year, he debuted his first full‑length ballet, Project Emotions, for the Ukrainian International Ballet; it garnered positive reviews from both press and public.

Since June 2022, he has been a member of the United Ukrainian Ballet in The Hague. His repertoire there includes solo roles in Paul Lightfoot’s Step Lightly, Alexei Patman’s War Time Elegy and the peasant pas de deux from Giselle, the pas de trois from Swan Lake, and the pas de deux from Forest Song. His choreography Soul Vibrations was singled out by De Volkskrant as “the most enjoyable choreography.”

Standing 181 cm tall and weighing 68 kg, Dmytro brings a striking stage presence to every performance. Fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, he combines rich cultural insight with superb communication skills. His dedication to his craft and his gift for conveying profound emotion mark him as one of today’s most remarkable ballet talents.
