About

Dr. Anna Seidl, a former principal dancer with Het National Ballet (HNB) in Amsterdam, is now an assistant professor in the Department of German Language and Culture at the University of Amsterdam.

With an international career that has connected her with leading choreographers and opera houses, her research spans multiple areas of cultural studies. Her work focuses, amongst others, on memory studies, discourses of othering, embodiment, visual cultures, and life narratives and is published by Oxford University Press.

Currently, she is engaged in an EU-funded Horizon project on East-West European perceptions, particularly examining emotion-based discourses of self and other in the context of dance. Throughout her academic career she has greatly benefited from her experience as a dancer, which provides her with a unique perspective, particularly on issues of corporeality, aesthetics, emotionality, and tacit knowledge, enriching her research.
